Q) Are you Green?
A) It depends!
- What does “Going Green” mean anyway?
- Is it the same for every one?
- What about all the different things we do and ways of doing them? Is it just two options NOT Green or Green: bad or good?
- Isn’t everything in our lives a range of not green to really-really green depending on technology and the way we use it?
Shades of Green
Exactly right!
As we move from the industrial economy towards what is being called “Green”, post-industrial, Sustainable or sometimes Creative economy, each different part of the economy and of our lives will be more or less good for the ecosystem at different times:
- Energy
- Food
- Transportation
- Community & Leisure
The range or shades of green can represent the degree to which the technology and behavior are degrading the ecosystem OR regenerating it:

And, to make things even more confusing, each technology and behavior is full of individual parts and pieces that are “Green” or NOT “Green” Shades of Green.
Deep Green Technologies, LLC illustrates this multi-dimensional view with a Sustainability Indicator:

Each Quadrant can represents different aspects of our organizational, community, business, and personal lives. Or the quadrants can represent the “ingredients” of a system: Like car, a factory, or a community–AND EVEN AN ENTIRE ECONOMY.
Actually IT DEPENDS, on how we put the building blocks of our lives together that determines:
“What our color is!”

Green Economy Building Blocks
AND

Going Green
What our Color is BECOMING!!
Whoa!!!
